Attorney Collaboration

Power in Partnerships

Every member of our senior leadership team at Bryson has had the experience of saying “no” to a case because we didn’t have the resources to bring it forward. It deserved to be heard, and it would have made a difference, but we didn’t have what was needed to make it happen. That’s why we promote attorney collaboration – those small cases matter.

The Bryson team has worked on hundreds of co-counsel cases. We have secured millions of dollars for clients, either increasing the award or furthering a case that might not otherwise have been heard.

Attorney collaboration results at Bryson have accomplished the following:

  • Provided justice for families and helped them feel more secure with the opportunity to move forward
  • Forcing corporations to be accountable when their negligence was harmful
  • Making the playing field a little more level than it was in the beginning
  • Bringing cases forward that might otherwise have been overlooked or underfunded

We have two different ways in which we collaborate with attorneys: formal “of counsel” relationships and referral partnerships.

Co-counsel benefits and advantages

Ethical obligations.
You can’t be a legal expert in every area of law, but you can partner with people who have the expertise and resources you need. This is about positioning your client for their best chance of success.

Saving time and money.
A case moves along with greater speed and less cost when it’s handled by attorneys who pursue this type of work every day. Partner with colleagues who have the strategy for the kinds of cases that require specific knowledge.

Building your reputation.
Using the resources of a firm that can help your case succeed is smart legal practice. Putting the client first builds loyalty for the future, and makes you a referrable attorney.

Other ways we can collaborate:

  • Lead co-counsel, co-counsel or second-chair participation
  • Voir dire (witness) strategy and preparation
  • Argument framing and review
  • Cross-examination of experts and witnesses
  • Advising on case presentation
  • Appeal case preparation

Considerations for Collaborating with a National Law Firm

For cases to be impactful at the national level, we offer the following assets:

  • Depth. Attorneys have tried and arbitrated critical and complex litigations in our practice areas. Our library of expertise, legal tools and resources is significant.
  • National experience. Our firm attorneys have argued cases before various courts, including appellate courts, and the Supreme Court of the United States. We know the process so our time is more dedicated to the client’s need.
  • Case management. Having been through significant national plaintiff cases, we have a strong process for managing and coordinating the elements of each case in a fluent manner.
  • Specific expertise. Every experience is an opportunity to learn a new skill or strategy in representing plaintiffs. When you have those experiences at the national level, you develop a playbook of lessons learned, important notes, the historical record and other invaluable assets.
  • Recruiting support. Our in-house IT and marketing support provides a foundation that leads to strong cases. There is a strategic way to build national cases, and we have enhanced our approach to a seamless process.
  • Expense management. The firm has the financial capacity to carry cases that require significant upfront costs, which allows us to put forth a persistent strategy for the client.

What Makes a Good Collaboration

We are a workhorse firm and that’s what it takes to win these kinds of cases. We are honest with attorneys about whether or not we can advance their case, so our best collaborations come with attorneys who also believe in an open and honest partnership that benefits the client.
